Another threat to the appearance of historic objects and landscapes in Ukraine is a wave of destructive repairs for energy saving reasons. Old historic plaster and decorative elements of facades are often covered with low-quality and cheap materials. Unfortunately, the modern tendency to use a layer of foam plastic does not destroy the aesthetic look of the building, but also as a harmful impact on microclimate and prevents proper ventilation of walls.
As a result, this may lead to serious lung diseases for people living in this house. Moreover, the foam plastic is highly inflammable material which creates additional risks for the residents. Experience has already shown that reconstructions of this kind are of very low quality, and the plaster exfoliates from foam plastic surface in a couple of years.
